Autobiography
22 March 2005 --
Do you even really care about what has happened in my life? Most likely not, since it doesn't affect you directly. At least I don't think it does. Do correct me if I'm wrong. *grin*
I successfully finished my freshman year at university and am now enduring my second year. Can't say I'm very pleased with all the subjects I'm taking. Mainly because it's a bit difficult for me. I guess karma ain't something to mess with. It's probably because I caused readers so much pain in my fics whenever I killed the characters. *wink*
Anyway, I really enjoyed playing the PS2 game Ico. It's a simple story and the scenery alone is worth the time and money spent. I'll be writing a fic on it sometime in the not too distant future (hopefully!).
And for those of you who wandered what happened to My Pictures page, it went the way of all the world. In other words, I scrapped it. You're stuck with the pic at the top. Oh, and I cut my hair to just below my nape, so I do need to get an up-dated picture, but I'm just too lazy. I guess it's good that I'm so open about it. *grin*
If you haven't seen House of Sand and Fog starring Jennifer Connelly and Sir Ben Kingsley, then I think you should. But there's no reason for you to do anything just because I think you should. So don't hold me responsible if you don't like it. The story is filled to overflowing with angst. It's a beautiful, moving movie. Makes you wonder who is ever truly right.
I've also been reading some amazing books. Okay, so they're children's books, but I ain't never said I was an adult. *grin* Anyway, they're rather sad for children's reading material. Might explain why I like them. Anyway, if ever you have the chance, you can check out Because of Winn-Dixie, Summer of my German Soldier and A Corner of the Universe.
Apart from that, nothin' much happening.
Later all!

8 September 2003 --
I haven't said anything new about myself in quite some time. So here's a bit on what has been going on with me.
In a week and a half, on the 16 of September 2003, I will leave my beautiful home and embark on a dangerous new journey. One filled with mystery, intrigue, self-discovery and lots of thrilling and frightening new experiences. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you've guessed it. I am going to Eastern Oregon University.
I'm afraid I won't have much time after that to update my site...but we never know what life has in store for us. I'll see what'll happen.
So that you could learn a bit more about what makes me tick and what I like, I'll delve into a few of the movies I've seen that are worth mentioning...either because they had excellent plots or they were very emotionally moving.
One of *the* greatest heist flicks to ever grace the big screen is 'The Italian Job'. Nothing in it was unnecessary. It's ingenuity was just amazing. The pace was fast and it had it's moments of quirkiness. Had me laughing, but then again, I amuse myself very easily. And for you filthy-minded people, kindly get it out of the gutter. *grin* I don't like hatch-back cars, but this movie certainly changed my opinion of them. They really do have their uses even though they aren't the most elegant-looking vehicles.
If you're more interested in the type of movies that shows the resilience and strength of the human spirit, then you'd enjoy 'Rabbit Foot Fence'. Whilst this movie doesn't have any 'big-name' stars, it has a wonderfully moving story. Three little Aborigine girls (usually children who were half-Aborigine half-white) are taken from their homes to be re-educated by the whites (I believe the British) to make them less 'savage' creatures. I can certainly tell you I was fuming at certain aspects of this movie...I was literally cursing at the screen! After the three little girls are taken to the re-education facility, they soon escape, wanting to get back to their families and home. They travel many thousands of miles on foot and elude capture by the British and make it safely home, sadly, sans one as she was just too foolish and decided to go her own way. I believe that's more than enough on this movie. I wouldn't want you to not look at it since you already know what would happen, give or take many other details.
How many of you think of Pierce Brosnan -- Mr. 007 -- as the loving-family-type man? I know I didn't until I saw a movie called 'Evelyn'. Wonderful family movie. Brosnan's wife ran out on him leaving him with his three children -- two boys and a girl named Evelyn. He's unemployed and a bit of a drunkard (which Irish man doesn't like drinking?) after his wife left him, therefore, the state takes away his children and places them in convent schools. You'll learn the reason behind the whole Catholic school thing if you look at the movie. My man 007 then cleans up his life and tries to get back his kids. After much struggling, he does...and mainly because of what Evelyn had to say.
Normally, I'm not a Sylvester Stalone fan. But this one movie shed new light on this bad actor -- though he's not bad in this flick. On the contrary, you could easily understand what he's saying. It's one of those sophisticated mafia comedies. Had me laughing. One of the best lines in that was when the woman said how she had 'waxed' a guy -- she meant 'whacked', but is quite cultured so doesn't know much about street/mafia talk. "I married him to death." I was rolling on the floor with that line. For more witty remarks and lots of laughs, just rent a movie by the name of 'Avenging Angelo'. Trust me, if you've a sense of humour like mine, then you'd definitely love it.
Believe me when I say that I've seen many more movies, but these four are the most memorable and worth mentioning. See, I'm a sucker for movies with happy endings too. Though you mightn't believe me considering the tone of many of my fics. *grin*
Anyway, hopefully, you've learned a bit more about me. If not, then at least you heard of some wonderful movies to go and look at. Apparently, I've had quite a few changes of opinions, which just goes to show just how much the media can influence a person...especially one so young and impressionable as me. As if!
I've also noticed something. Many other people get cars for their eighteenth birthday, but not me. NO SIREE!! I put up my own website. *shakes head in wonder*
Anyhoo, later!

April 2003 --
I started writing fanfiction at the old age of 17 and a half and posted my first fic at that age. I just turned 18 during the last week of April 2003 and posted my fifth fic five days after my birthday. I COULD tell you my real name, but I would prefer to be known as DOTLP here. It's quite an easy thing to find out my given name, so if you're up to it, go for it!
What else can I say? Ah, yes. My favourite shows are 'The Pretender' (no surprise), 'The X-Files' (before the introduction of Doggett. DIE DOGGETT!! Ahem...yes...), 'Ed', 'Good Morning Miami', '8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter', 'Will & Grace' (before Grace got married to Leo), 'Less Than Perfect' (only because Andrea Parker is in it. In my opinion, she's the best part of that show. She still maintains her sarcastic humour and fabulous sense of style. In my humble opinion - and my opinions tend to not be worth much - her best role was as Miss Parker). You know what? The list is too long, so let's just leave it at that. As to movies? Don't get me started. I love 'The Fifth Element' and 'I Am Sam' and 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Harry Potter' (I hate the person they chose to play Ron though) and 'The Lion King' and 'Labyrinth' and 'Rush Hour' (basically anything with Jackie Chan) and 'The Matrix' and 'Johnny Mnemonic' and 'Bringing Down The House' and 'The Mummy' and 'Bedazzled' and...Yes, you get the picture. Now...favourite actors/actresses. I'll start with the guys: David Duchovny, Michael T. Weiss, Dean Cain, David Spade, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Brendan Fraser, Will Smith, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Keanu Reeves, Elijah Wood, John Leguizamo - and that's only a few. On to the girls: Andrea Parker, Gillian Anderson, Terri Hatcher, Angie Harmon, Anne Hathaway, Elizabeth Hurley, Milla Jovovich...What else can I say? I'm a TV/movie addict. It's a habit I don't want to break.
And the paragraph above, boys and girls, is an example of what NOT to write. Great use of run-on sentences there. Gave myself a pat on the back for it, I did. Trust me, I DO NOT write like that. I write using more sarcasm. If you want proof, just re-read this paragraph.
I also enjoy reading good fanfiction. I have an account at fanfiction.net and you'll see a list of some of my favourite authors and stories there. My favourite fandoms are 'The Pretender', 'The X-Files', 'Harry Potter' and a jumble of others you've heard of but probably don't really care about. Also, when I review, you'll definitely know whether I like it or believe it should be used as toilet paper. I give praise and advice quite liberally, depending on the substance of what I'm reading. I'll tell you what I love, what I hate and what you can do to make it better if it needs it. Just ask some people at FF.net. They'll tell ya. And I'm certain some of them hate my guts too! Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to be brutally honest. Ah well, I'm still alive.
As to the type of books I love reading...well, I absolutely adore fantasy, science fiction, action/adventure, and espionage, to name a few. My favourite authors would have to be J. K. Rowling, J. R. R. Tolkien, Harper Lee, Philip Pullman, Sidney Sheldon, Dean R. Koontz, Robert Ludlum & John Case, in no particular order. There are many more but that should suffice for the moment.
"Doesn't she do anything outdoors?" you ask? Well, I'm a good tennis player - I have a killer forehand and backhand...just need to work on my serves and volleys though. And don't let my 5'2" frame fool you. I'm one heck of a basketball player. What I lack in height I make up for in enthusiasm, dexterity and determination. Unfortunately, that dexterity does not extend to dancing. To quote someone: "...I look like a retarded string bean when I dance." But, considering I'm short, maybe not a string bean...but you get the idea. Don't you? Anyhoo, recently - maybe six months ago - I took up jogging. I can go for about a mile to a mile and a half without stopping now and it only takes me ten to twelve minutes. With stopping, I can run double that distance in twenty-two minutes. I'm very proud of myself. I'm a lot fitter now than I was a year ago.
Aspirations: I have none. Seriously, I hope to enter the world of medicine; brain surgery to be specific. Although I'm certain I won't be able to alter the way my own works...and I'm certain you've already come to the conclusion that I'm not in complete control of my senses. Oh well! There are worse things than that.
I reside on a little rock which goes by the name of Antigua. Every now and then I get peeved that there isn't something or other here. But when it comes down to it, I really love my home. Sunshine, wonderfully soft white sand, more shades of blue in the ocean than you can name, calm seas most of the time, TV (cable or satellite)...who wouldn't want to live here? I had lived a year in Italy when I was fourteen/fifteen, but can't remember much of the Italian I learned. I can, however, remember some of the cute boys there! It's a good thing my dad's work took my family there.
I wouldn't bore you with the details of where, but I will tell you I went to school. And amazingly, it was fun. Hard work, but fun. I graduated from high school on the 28th June 2002, went to my prom the next night wearing a real dress (I just hate wearing dresses and skirts...if the occasion absolutely calls for it, then I do - under much duress) and streaked my hair bronze-ish-gold and surprised and impressed quite a few of my classmates. And the only reason I ended up going all out that night was because my classmates said I couldn't. Had to prove 'em wrong. *evil grin* That's about it for school. For the moment, I'm working in my parent's Financial Services business until I leave for university in Oregon.
I believe that's more than enough info on me, but if anything new happens I'll be sure to let you know.
Ciao.
